Pro Climbing arrives with 133 of 350 tracked terms already on page one of Google Australia and 63 of them in the top three. That is a real asset, and the first job is not losing it. Below: the board as it stands today, the defence programme that keeps those positions, the three places we grow first, and the ninety-day and ongoing work that gets us there.
This is the opening position on the 350 terms we track across Google Australia. Ignore the month-ago column in the raw export, tracking only started with us this month. What matters is the shape of the board right now: a strong, well-built suburb-page footprint carrying most of the service terms, and one clear soft spot.
The suburb-page architecture is working. 60 suburb and service pages are already pulling rankings, and tree removal, tree lopping and tree pruning all sit strongly on page one across the North Shore, Northern Beaches and Hills. The soft spot is "arborist [suburb]", where 45 of 64 tracked terms do not rank at all despite the target pages already existing. That is the single cheapest fix on the board.
A campaign changing hands is the moment rankings are most at risk. Positions slip when tracking goes quiet, when pages are edited without a record of what changed, when the Google Business Profile stops being fed, or when a competitor simply keeps publishing and we do not. 133 page-one positions and 63 top-three positions are the asset we are defending. Here is the standing programme that protects them.
Nothing is defended that is not measured. All 350 terms are tracked weekly, not monthly, so a slide is caught in days rather than after it has cost a month of calls.
The 60 suburb pages already ranking are treated as protected assets. Changes to them are deliberate, logged and reversible.
Suburb rankings in tree work are held up as much by local signals as by the page itself. These are the signals that decay fastest if left alone.
Ranking pages go stale. Rather than leaving 60 pages untouched, each one is revisited on a rotation so the whole footprint stays current.
A link profile that stops growing goes backwards relative to competitors who keep going. Steady, quality acquisition is part of the defence, not just the offence.
Being straight about what could cost us positions, so none of it lands as a surprise.
Positions like Emergency tree removal sydney #1 · Tree removal northern beaches #2 · Tree lopping northern beaches #1 · Tree services northern beaches #1 are the ones that ring the phone. The retention programme above runs every month regardless of what growth work is in flight. Growth never comes at the expense of what is already ranking.
The growth work sorts cleanly into three buckets, and they are not equal. Two of them use pages that already exist, which makes them fast and cheap. The third needs new pages built, which is slower but opens the biggest unclaimed ground. We work them in this order.
Grouped by service, this is where the missed clicks concentrate. Tree removal is the biggest earner and is already performing, so the work there is climbing from page one into the top three. Arborist is the largest pure gap.
First, push the 49 page-two terms over the line, fastest clicks for least work. Then close the arborist gap on the 76 terms whose pages already exist and already rank for other services. In parallel, start building the missing suburb, region and Sydney-wide pages, beginning with the Sydney head terms, the Hills cluster and the North Shore region pages, which carry the most volume of anything currently unclaimed.
Position matters because of clicks. The same suburb term at #2 versus #15 is the difference between a steady run of quotes and near silence. Applying standard click-through rates by position to the estimated search volume behind every tracked term, here is roughly where Pro Climbing stands.
How this is modelled: each term's estimated AU monthly search volume is multiplied by a standard organic click-through rate for its current position (roughly 27% at #1, 15% at #2, 11% at #3, tapering to under 1% past page one and effectively zero beyond the top 100). The "on the table" figure is the extra clicks from lifting each term to a top-three click-through rate, floored per term so terms already ranking well are not counted against the opportunity. Volumes are conservative planning bands set by term type, Sydney-wide head terms, region terms, major suburbs and smaller suburbs, and can be swapped for a live Ahrefs export. Figures are indicative, not a guarantee.
The first ninety days do two things at once: lock down everything currently ranking, and take the cheap ground before touching anything expensive. From month four the campaign settles into a repeating monthly rhythm where defence and growth run side by side.
Once the ninety days are done the campaign runs on a fixed monthly cycle. Defence tasks are non-negotiable and happen first; growth work fills the rest of the month.
